Box Twenty were appointed to provide MEP design services for the South Downs View retirement housing development in Petersfield. The project comprises a mixture of apartments, houses, staff facilities and a central Hub building with a restaurant, bar and gym.

The project has challenging sustainability and energy targets and the Hub Building is required to achieve a BREEAM excellent certificate.

Box Twenty have worked closely with the sustainability consultant to agree an energy strategy with the Client that meets all targets. The Energy Strategy focusses on a fabric first approach with high levels of air tightness and  insulation.

Carbon emissions and energy consumption are reduced further by incorporating photovoltaic cells on the residential building roofs and a heat pump system for the Hub Building heating and hot water.

Heating and hot water to the apartments and houses is generated locally using system boilers, and houses will be provided with a wood burning stove in the living room.  All of the dwellings will be provided with a call care system that links back to the Hub Building.

The project has recently been tendered and we look forward to the first phase of construction for which we are retained in a Technical Advisor role.
