Box Twenty were appointed to produce a RIBA Stage 2 Concept Design and Energy Statement for planning and are now appointed to complete a RIBA Stage 3 design for Tender for this exiciting new development.

The development consists of three new-build residential housing apartment blocks in Old Market, Bristol City Centre.

Box Twenty were appointed through Alec French Architects to work on this project for The Guinness Partnership in Old Market consisting of three new-build residential affordable housing apartment blocks with a total of 106no. flats and a small integrated police station.

Through an options appraisal exercise, all of the three new-build residential apartment blocks will be serviced by district heating.

The Bristol District Heating Network is currently being constructed in the lower Old Market Area & is looking to be progressed north in the coming couple of years.

For connection we have proposed a DH sub-station plant room where back-up boilers will also be provided in case the DH network is not ready in time for occupation.

We worked hard with the design & client team to achieve good thermal performance of the building fabric with low air permeability.

For compliance with the planning policy in Bristol we have proposed that solar photovoltaics (PV) are installed on the highest roofs to avoid any potential overshading in order to achieve the Councils renewable energy contributions.
