Project Value £1.45m / Status Complete / Stages RIBA 2 - 3

The provision of M&E consultancy services associated with the proposed planning application for the reconfiguration & enhancement of an existing retail building at The Guild, Wilton, Wiltshire.

The Guild is a shopping Village in Wiltshire, formerly the home of Wilton Carpets. Its a picturesque setting with some of the industrial heritage being retained.

The centre has remained largely vacant for a period of time, so it was a good opportunity for our client to redevelop the project to attract more tenants into the centre.

Originally the design was based around an anchor tenant who had high sustainability targets for us to meet, which was challenging.

We undertook detailed SBEM modelling of the existing & proposed development to identify the best options for improving the existing EPC to a minimum “C” rating.

We looked at implementing fabric improvements, moving away from gas to ASHP’s & incorporation of PV.

Box Twenty were appointed to provide Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health design services and carried out the following activities:

  • Site surveys;

  • Assessment of existing services to the retail building;

  • M&E Initial design strategies / options for heating, ventilation & hot water;

  • Outlined energy / carbon reduction options for consideration;

  • M&E initial space planning to ensure that plant areas, risers, ceiling voids etc. are adequate to accommodate services;

  • M&E initial load assessments for water, gas & electricity;

  • Undertook Ventilation & Extraction statement;

  • Undertook initial SBEM Calculations and EPC Part L2B;

  • Review of existing above ground foul drainage & proposals for new;

  • Made applications to utilities providers (electricity, gas & water) to obtain budget quotes to upgrade supplies as required;

  • Undertook a formal Stage 2 report summarising all design work undertaken.
